THE WORK OF THE EMPLOYER COALITIONS

What We Do

Electricians WorkingEmployer Coalitions add value to the work of public agencies and local partnerships by unlocking the expertise, energy and resources of employers and providing intelligence about employment needs, access to job vacancies, and practical guidance for the welfare-to-work system.

Coalition activities revolve around key sets of organisations:

  • Employers
  • Employment and Skills Providers
  • Partners - Government Departments, Jobcentre Plus, and related Agencies

Our Work With Employers

No matter what business you are in or how large or small your organisation is, Employer Coalitions can help you get the best out of the local labour market and recruit job-ready candidates that meet your business needs.

We set out to help employers get the best out of the employment and skills system because meeting the needs of employers is the key to helping disadvantaged people succeed in the workplace.

Through a single point of contact, free at point of use, we can:

  • Ensure you get best value from public employment and skills provision
  • Help you develop recruitment and promotion practices that make best use of local talent
  • Give you the opportunity to shape strategic partnerships and the design of local employment and skill programmes
  • Give you a range of business reasons to invest in and work with the employment and skills system

Our work with Employment and Skills providers

Employer Coalitions offer capacity-building and technical assistance to employment and skills organisations working with disadvantaged communities. Our aim is to spread best practice in working with employers. Employer Coalitions offers knowledge and support in getting employers involved with design of training and work experience. We provide guidance on using employers' recruitment needs to define programme content and the standard of job readiness.

We offer:

  • Support, direct and through peer learning networks, to help you build your capacity to engage with employers
  • Help to optimise programme outcomes in terms of starting salaries, retention, and progression

Our workshops to practitioners across the country call on the expertise of leading practitioners from the UK and the USA. We help organisations develop their knowledge of and ability to implement new demand-led strategies and ideas. Our programmes offer innovative content, relevant case studies and insights from industry experts.

Our work with Governments and Public Sector Agencies

Employer Coalitions add value in two key ways.  They are by:

  • Drawing in additional employers -  to create access to a wider range/more job and skills development opportunities for people disadvantaged in the labour market
  • Delivering employer advice and support  - to improve the employment and skills delivery systems

Drawing in Additional Employers

We engage employers that:

  • Offer jobs with prospects
  • Are willing to invest in their people
  • Are keen to try new ways of upskilling and recruiting without compromising their standards
  • Are committed to diversity and equality
  • Are not currently always working effectively with our public sector partners

Improving the Employment and Skills Delivery Systems

We help improve employment and skills delivery systems by:

  • Capacity building  - supporting providers and front line staff in developing their knowledge of employers' requirements and in marketing, designing and delivering services to meet their needs.
  • Providing a ‘testing ground' for new Government initiatives  - supporting the set up of new programmes and being the first to trial new services
  • Developing new ways of working - creating new partnerships and new approaches with employers and public sector partners
  • Providing governance support - bringing a focus on the overall functioning of the labour market to multi-agency partnerships rather than a single policy strand, pressure or ‘commercial' interest.  This can be provided at city, sub-regional or regional level.
